The International Rachmaninoff Competition of Young Pianists

The Rachmaninoff Young Pianists Competition is the first and the only competition in Russia that sets itself the task of consolidating national piano music traditions as the most important part of national culture, the part not studied enough and not properly evaluated. For the last two centuries national music has imbibed the world culture, the influence being felt in different forms and genres. The brighest constrasts — from Glinka to Shostakovich — harmoniously shape the contours of national music culture. It's a whole planet where we have explored only a small part. This competition may become a source of enlightenment for everyone as it's the most powerful form of consolidating the music not known to us in its full purport.

Proud, passionate and ascetic spirit of Rachmaninoff's genius...! Our monographic Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition in Moscow is an opportune and significant phenomenon both in spirit and scope. But it is the only one and it is dedicated to the creative activity of only one composer. His name sounds proud but there other proud names in the history of Russian piano music.

The Rachmaninoff International Young Pianists Competition in Tambov is a satellite of the Monographic Competition in Moscow. It is to follow the traditional succession of competitive selection but now on the basis of Russian music. Compulsony forms and genres such as sonatas, lyrical miniatures, suites, variations, piano concertos — are all widely represented in the Russian music of the XIX-XX centuries.

One of the specific features of the V-th Competition is the participation of the Classical Music and Art School — FZLLC (UAE) as partner and co-founder of the Rachmaninoff Institute.

Another specific feature is the correlation of the participants' programme and the curriculums of the musical schools: in the 1-st and 2-nd rounds a participant can perform a piece included info the curriculum instead of a piece of Russian composers. The Organizing Committee believes that in can give an opportunity to participate to a greater number of young pianists from musical school, musical colleges and art colleges.

We are sure the coming Competition will open up new names of young pianists as will as wonderful music rarely performed.
