The Rachmaninov Tambov State Academy of Music has a staff of 66
highly skilled specialists who are involved in teaching process according to the syllabi of higher supplementary education. There are 5 Doctors and 28 Candidates of science, 28 Professors and 22 readers in the staff. 38 members of the staff hold honorary titles in the field of art.
The education is conducted in following specialities:
The graduating students of the Rachmaninov Tambov State Academy can be: highly skilled teachers of music and train musicians in educational establishments of all kinds: academies and other institutions of higher supplementary education of Music Art, secondary schools, colleges and schools of music. More over they can enter the post graduate courses according the specialities: Theory & Practice of Training (music) & Music Art on graduating that the young scientists defend a thesis & become the Candidates of Science. Also they work as soloists, enter folk and symphony orchestras, brass bands and choruses as well as work as musicologists and music critics.
The Rachmaninov Tambov State Academy of Music holds the International advanced master-classes dedicated to the memory of S. Rachmaninov annually during the summer months.
The summer advanced courses are for students and young professional musicians wishing to improve their skills. The courses give them a unique chance to prepare for international contests as well as to improve their qualifications under the guidance and supervision of top pedagogues and performing artists.
Once every four years the Rachmaninov Tambov State Academy of Music holds the International Youth Piano Competition in memory of S. Rachmaninov. Young pianists under the age of eighteen come to participate in this competition from all over the world. The fifth International Youth Piano Contest will be held in May of 2012.
The Institute has a symphony orchestra, a chamber orchestra, a folk orchestra, a brass band and a chorus. All ensembles frequently appear in concerts on the stage of the Rachmaninov Tambov State Academy of Music. Teachers and students also regularly give recitals and chamber music concerts.
A ten-month preliminary course is available in addition to the normal curriculum however financial responsibility for this course may lie with parents. Candidates for admission can also receive tuition for free one Sunday a month.
The Museum of the Rachmaninov Tambov State Academy of Music is rather small, but nevertheless it contains unique exhibits. The Museum regularly holds exhibitions and organizes excursions for students of the city's schools and different establishments of higher education.
Logistics
In order to organize successful teaching process according to the programmes of higher and secondary supplementary education, the Institute has at its disposal 6 blocks (12484 square metres in area) consisting of lecture rooms and laboratories, 2 concert halls and an assembly hall.
The Academy has a student hostel with modern amenities and houses 170 people. There is a canteen, a snack bar and a medical room providing health service in the student hostel.
Also there is a library (80000 published items), Internet-centre, record and video library intended to aid specialist training in the field of music in the Academy. All the lecture rooms and concert halls are fitted up with musical instruments and equipment for music broadcasting.
The Unit of Physical Culture provides varied programmes of sports events.
The Rachmaninov Tambov State Academy of Music also has its own means of transportation
