  Music Classes established under the guidance and supervision of the pianist R. A. Gelman.
  
• 1882
  The Imperial Russian Music Society opens its branch in Tambov. Music Classes under the authority of the IRMS.
  
• 1894
  S. M. Starikov appointed Director of Music Classes.
  
• 1900
  Music Classes transformed into Music School licensed to function as a secondary educational establishment.
  
• 1903
  The building of Music School erected. Designed by A. A. Svirchevsky.
  
• 1909
  The work of Tambov Music School inspected by S. V. Rachmaninoff.
  
• 1918
  According to the decision made 3rd April 1918 by the Tambov Province Soviet of Worker, Soldier and Peasant Deputies, Music School nationalised and, by the decree issued 12th July 1918 by the Soviet of People's Commissars, under the authority of the RSFSR People's Commissariat on Education.

  School transformed into People's Conservatory.

  Tambov Musical District established to include Tambov, Voronezh, Kursk, Orel and Bryansk Province. Headed by S. M. Starikov.

  15th September Tambov People's Conservatory transformed into State Conservatory.
  
• 1922
  Tambov State Conservatory transformed into College of Music with a 1st-level affiliation.
  
• 1936
  According to the decision made 1st September 1936 by the All-Union Committee on Art set up by the Soviet of People's Commissars, College of Music transformed into Music School.
  
• 1959
  According to the decision made by the RSFSR Council of Ministers, the name of S. V. Rachmaninoff conferred on Tambov Music School.
  
• 1982
  By the Decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR issued 14th April 1982, the Rachmaninoff School of Music in Tambov awarded the Order 'Sign of Honour' for its services to the training of musicians and in connection with the centenary of its founding.
  
• 1995
  According to Decision 124 made 17th March 1995 by the Administration of the Tambov Region and on the strength of Order 36-k signed 30th March 1995 by Head of the Department of Culture and Art, the Rachmaninoff School of Music in Tambov and Tambov Culture School amalgamated.
• 1996
  According to the decision made 15th May 1996 by the Administration of the Tambov Region, the Rachmaninoff School of Music in Tambov transformed into the Rachmaninoff State Pedagogical Institute of Music in Tambov.
